Ace in the hole?

Or Dontrelle Willis the 2nd?

Well, his ace days are long since past, but I'm quite certain he's more mechanically sound than the D-Train. Let's hope he doesn't get derailed if they bring him up. See what I did there?

I bet he is better than Troy Patton.

I hope so.

Don't go out on a limb. You have to lay odds with that type of bet. Johan will be a good influence on our guys assuming he doesn't come up and fall flat on his face.

Troy Patton was member of the team for a third of the season. At a minimun, we upgrade that spot with Johan. Though Buck says he is only being looked at as a starter.

I found Buck's comment curious when most of the starters while not dazzling have performed well enough. Although, with Buck that may have been motivational for his guys. You might have heard he likes them. At a minimum having him somewhere on the roster allows us the flexibility for a spot start if someone does need a break.

Santana's comeback is all about becoming the winningest Venezuelan pitcher in MLB history. He needs 18 more wins to pass Freddy Garcia. He won't get them as a reliever. He will need to start the rest of this year and next year to achieve his goal.

You have a link to a quote when he's made that claim?

No, do you think I made it up? I would never have guessed he wasn't already the leader in that race if I hadn't read it somewhere. I read it when he first signed with the O's. I didn't realize I should curate the link.

    • If Mateo can OPS .700, he’d probably be a top 3-5 2nd basemen in the AL the rest of his contract. WAR wise. His range and arm strength is incredible there.  Just a coincidence that Brian Roberts was calling this game and Roberts career was ruined from concussions. Self inflicted. I hope Jorge is ok. I’m sure Mullins feels terrible.
    • Baker’s ERA is down to 7.58 at Norfolk.
    • Krook posted great stats in May. Being left handed, I doubt they see him as a 1 for 1 replacement for Vieira. A possible call up for Akin, to give him a light load and rest for 10 days, maybe. But I don't think they'd want to lose Akin for 10 games.
    • A couple thoughts…. Jorge Lopez’s son has some serious issues and is on a transplant list. This is why he went on the IL in Minnesota for mental health reasons.  It’s hard to blame Hyde for any bullpen decisions considering the pen 10.1 IP scoreless the over Friday and Saturday.  The last spot of the pen needs to be used with this team. I prefer the Norfolk Shuttle nightly versus even my boy Jorge Lopez. Krook, Baker, etc… are not projects.
    • Norby deserves a shot though. Plus the lineup is already fairly balanced between right and left, no need to go out of your way to insure a left handed hitting 2B.
    • Again, I'm don't know everything about him, and I appreciate that Elias and the Orioles know him much better than I do, but I do have some concerns that whatever he's going through may make his performance volatile.  Is he better than Viera (who I just don't understand why the Orioles are eating a roster spot for), sure, but the Orioles are big on their clubhouse atmosphere and if Lopez is not a fit for whatever reason, I'm ok with them passing on him. If they think it's not an issue, then I'm ok with them bringing him on. Either way, they can't keep going into series down a reliever as long as Viera can only pitch in mop up roles.
